Week Without Driving Community Discussion – Madison
Join the Greater Madison Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for a Week Without Driving Community Discussion on Sunday, September 28th from 3:30-5pm, hosted by the MPO and Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC), in partnership with UW–Madison Transportation Services and AARP Wisconsin.
This event will kick off a regional panel discussion series for the Week Without Driving (September 29-October 5), that will bring people in Dane County together to talk about transportation equity and accessibility. Inspired by Anna Zivarts’ book, “When Driving Is Not An Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency,” the discussion will explore how car dependency impacts people with disabilities, older adults, young people, and others who can’t drive—and what it takes to build communities where everyone can get around safely and independently.
This hybrid event will be held in-person at the Marquee Cinema at Union South, 1308 W. Dayton St. #245, Madison, WI 53715 and online, and feature a moderated panel discussion led by CARPC Commissioner Bill Tishler with panelists including:
– Denise Jess, Executive Director, Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired
– Christof Spieler, Director, City of Madison Department of Transportation
– Caryn Walline, Director of Parking Operations, UW-Madison Transportation Services
