Bikes for Kids Wisconsin Shipping Over 500 Bikes to Zomba, Malawi
Bikes for Kids Wisconsin will be shipping over 500 bikes to Zomba, Malawi on November 6. The shipping container will be loaded at Bikes for Kids at 354 Coyier Lane in south Madison at 9am with hopes of completion by 7pm. Volunteers are needed to help remove wheels and pedals off the bicycles.
These bicycles have been donated mostly by people in Dane County to Bikes for Kids Wisconsin. “The bikes that are being shipped out are bikes that are not the best for our conditions,” says Kristie GoForth, Executive Director. “Many are heavy full suspension bikes that were manufactured in the 1990’s. They will work great for users in Malawi because they have rugged roads that require heavy utilitarian bicycles. The recipients in Malawi will receive their bikes through a nonprofit partner called Africycle.”
Bikes have been sent to Ghana, El Salvador, Honduras, and Malawi in the past two years through Bikes for Kids Wisconsin and Working Bikes.
