Madison Children’s Museum Announces Reopening Dates, Breaks Ground on New Exhibit, Calls for Community Support
The Madison Children’s Museum has been closed since March 13, 2020, due to the pandemic. Now conditions are right for a cautious reopening. The museum will begin a phased reopening this June, with changes made to operations to protect the health of visitors and staff. For more details including re-opening dates and hours, click here.
The museum also recently broke ground on a major expansion project to be called the Wonderground. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by community leaders and partners to launch the construction of a new 10,000-square-foot exhibit for outdoor, active play behind the museum. The Wonderground will feature an awe-inspiring climbing sculpture as centerpiece to a new outdoor play space, the museum’s historic log cabin, and assorted smaller hands-on exhibits and adventures. The Museum plans to complete the project and open it to visitors by the end of summer. For more information, see their Wonderground exhibit page here.
The pandemic has also been hard on the museum, as it has on most. And the summer and fall will continue to challenge their resources as they open and operate amidst restrictions — even as demand increases for their need-based admission programs. The museum’s Our Future In Play initiative will raise the funds needed to reopen the museum as planned, complete the Wonderground, and keep the museum strong in the difficult times to come. They must raise $4 million by June 30, 2021. And thanks to many generous donors, over $3.41 million (85%) has already been raised. Your support will help get them over the finish line.
Madison Children’s Museum’s future depends on YOU. Together, we can preserve this National Medal–winning, top ten children’s museum while bringing joy and hope back to children and families when they need it most. Please consider a gift of any amount today.
