How to Create Workplace Cultures that Care About Victims of Crime
You are invited to panel discussion on How to Create Workplace Cultures that Care About Victims of Crime. The discussion is happening on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 5:30–7:00pm at Lodgic Workplace — Madison, 2801 Marshall Court.
Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin is organizing this event aimed at helping employers and managers understand how to create workplaces that are supportive of crime victims. The event will be a panel conversation with participants focusing on the fact that an employer can reasonably assume they have staff who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse. The trauma and experience of these crimes can negatively impact a victim’s ability to function in the workplace and, in turn, negatively impact the company more broadly. That should mean that an employer has a stake in developing policies, practices, and procedures that are responsive to the interests of crime victims. To ensure a supportive and inclusive workplace, it is critical that every employer understands the issues, existing local resources, and relevant laws – including Marsy’s Law.
The event is intended to encourage conversations about victims’ rights beyond just the courtroom. Panelists will discuss how employers and managers can set the tone in the workplace to ensure more compassionate outcomes for victims through better policies in the workplace.
After a moderated panel discussion, there will be time for Q&A with the audience.
The speakers at the event are going to be: Nela Kalpic – Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin Outreach Director, Rachel Sattler – Senior Managing Attorney at LOTUS Legal Clinic and Non-Profit Founder at DaneMAC, Rebecca Donaldson – Victim Rights Attorney and Brandie de La Rosa – CEO/Founder, Inspire, Zach Brandon – President, Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, Jessica Cavazos – President, Latino Chamber of Commerce.
