DMI Statement of Support for MMSD Referenda 8-12-20

Downtown Madison, Inc. (DMI) Position of Support
Operating and Facilities Referenda – Madison Metropolitan School District
August 12, 2020

The DMI Board of Directors supports the proposed Madison Metropolitan School
District referenda, one for operations and one for facilities. Since the onset of the
COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen just how vital our schools are to our city and our
families. These referenda represent a generational opportunity to invest in our kids and
our community. Both will also create jobs; expand education opportunities for our
kids; allow Madison public schools to continue to compete with surrounding
communities; and expand upon the current investment the district has made in
decreasing the achievement gap and tackling the disparities that exist in our schools.
With so many families and businesses struggling right now, it’s important that we
prioritize public resources. We can think of no greater priority than funding our great
public schools.
