CTM Presents A Christmas Carol: Home for the Holidays
Children’s Theater of Madison (CTM) is giving the community a gift this year: the annual holiday production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL is reimagined for our times, and delivered directly to your home. This virtual offering will feature a 95-member cast of professional actors, talented youth, community members and civic leaders. Cast members include all of the actors who have played Scrooge in the past 15 years and many recognizable actors from CTM and APT, as well as appearances by local notables such as Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, Governor Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers, UW Marching Band director Corey Pompey, Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Reverend Alex Gee, Poet Laureate Fabu and many other familiar faces. Each cast member will narrate a portion of the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and images from past productions will appear alongside the narrator, transporting the viewer to the theater. The piece is underscored by a six-piece string ensemble featuring A Dickens Christmas Carol Suite by Andrew Dabczynski, and recorded this fall with Madison musicians. With Creative Direction by Brian Cowing and Music Direction by Mark Wurzelbacher, this is a true community-created event. Viewing is free and streaming December 18 – 31. The performance lasts 35 minutes and is told in a storytelling style, appropriate for all ages. For more information and the link to view visit www.ctmtheater.org.
To whet the appetite for the show, CTM’s Education Department will launch 5 Days to Christmas (Carol) leading up to December 18. This will include holiday recipes, games, songs, and favorite holiday traditions from CTM youth, staff, and board of directors. These will be shared through CTM’s social media outlets and email list.
A Christmas Carol is a treasured holiday tradition CTM has proudly produced for over forty years. First directed and adapted by former Artistic Director, Nancy Thurow, in 1976. Many adaptations have been produced over the years including a musical version. Most recently, CTM has used their commissioned adaptation by APT’s Colleen Madden, presented on the grand Capitol Theatre and directed by James Ridge. Plans are to revive this adaptation onstage in 2021.
A special acknowledgment to CG Schmidt and American Girl for sponsoring this production. And to Woodman’s Markets for sponsoring the CTM season. CTM encourages and welcomes donations to support their ongoing programs especially during these challenging times.
