City of Madison Building Energy Savings Program
The City of Madison adopted the new Building Energy Savings program (BESP) to improve energy efficiency of large commercial buildings community-wide through energy benchmarking and tune-ups. Energy benchmarking is simply measuring and tracking annual energy use. Just like tuning-up a bicycle or a car, building tune-ups check to make sure all systems are running well and not wasting energy (and money!).
The Building Energy Savings program has now officially launched. Check out their website for essential program information, how to guides, and a link to the online Building Owner Portal that building owners/mangers will use to report their benchmarking data.
- The Covered Buildings List is already available on the website. It has the address and square footage of all buildings that need to start benchmarking this year – which are only buildings larger than 100,000 square feet.
- The reporting deadline for this year has been extended to September 6 to give everyone plenty of time to benchmark their building.
- The City will be offering lunch and learn trainings on the benchmarking and reporting process throughout the spring and summer – on May 22, June 5, June 12, June 18, June 26. Dates in July and August are TBD. There will be a link to register for these trainings on their website.
