A decade ago, the 19th annual Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) brought designers and thought leaders from across the country to Madison’s industrial eastern corridor to imagine how it could grow and evolve. Today, it features many of the largest urban infill projects in the state and its main artery—East Washington Ave—is evolving to meet the need for safer walking and high capacity transit.

For this event, hosted by DMI and CNU-Wisconsin, CNU’s new Executive Director, Rick Cole, will return to Madison to reflect on the recent and future growth in the area, participate in a walking tour of the newest development projects, and meet with local designers, community builders, and urbanists. The event will start at Breese Stevens Field and take place mostly outdoors, with some brief stops at nearby buildings.

CNU-Wisconsin is the local chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism, the international organization that helps create vibrant and walkable cities, towns, and neighborhoods where people have diverse choices for how they live, work, shop, and get around. Learn more at
