You’re invited to the 2021 State of the Downtown! This year’s event is taking place hybrid and will feature the release of the 11th annual State of the Downtown report as well as an informative panel discussion on major issues and opportunities facing downtown Madison.  The panel will include:

  • Brenda González, Director of Community Relations, University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Philip Gritzmacher, Transportation Planner, City of Madison
  • Matt Mikolajewski, Economic Development Division Director, City of Madison
  • Craig Stanley, Founding Principal, Broadwing Advisors
  • Ellie Westman Chin, President & CEO, Destination Madison

Virtual: To register to attend virtually on Zoom, click the ‘virtual registration’ button below.


In-Person: To register to attend in-person at the Overture Center for the Arts, submit the form below. To attend in-person, you must be a DMI member and registration is required as space is limited. Registration will be open until Thursday, November 4 at 8am or until the event reaches capacity. Individuals attending in-person are encouraged to bring their own nametags as they will not be provided at this event.



Per Public Health Madison Dane County order, everyone is required to wear a face covering or mask in any enclosed space open to the public and will be enforced at all indoor DMI events, meetings and gatherings.  DMI also strongly recommends everyone wear a face covering or mask at outdoor DMI events.  In addition, DMI is requiring photo ID and full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours to attend in-person.  In-person attendees will be subject to present and should be prepared to provide proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test AND photo ID upon entry. Individuals experiencing symptoms of sickness are asked to please not attend in-person.


Parking is located in the City of Madison State Street Capitol garage located at 214 N. Carroll St. and standard parking rates apply. A limited amount of street parking may also be available. Metro TransitMadison BCycle, and bicycle transportation are options as well.
