Employees of Settlers bank recently underwent Dementia Friendly Business certification training with Kari Paterson, Executive Director of the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. This training raised staff awareness on how to better serve both clients with dementia as well as their support network, increased their understanding of what dementia means, how it affects the brain and partnered it with a toolkit of best practices regarding communication and interaction with dementia afflicted clients. This training increased staff awareness to what these vulnerable clients need from their financial institution and how Settlers bank can best serve them.

On Saturday, April 7th, Capitol Neighborhoods, Inc. presented a check for $500 for the Barton Organ Restoration Fund. The presentation occurred after the matinee performance of the Duck Soup cinema film in the Overture Center's Capitol Theatre. Representing the Restoration Fund was T.J. Holsen. CNI Executive Committee member Rick Broughman and long-time neighborhood activist Ruth Yarborough presented the check.

The annual meeting of Capitol Neighborhoods, Inc. (CNI) will be held on Monday, June 18th at Monona Terrace. While there will the annual election of district representatives, all downtown residents and employers are welcome to attend. There will be a cash bar and light refreshments provided. This year the featured speaker will be Jason Ilstrup, the DMI President. CNI encourages all DMI members to attend and participate in a lively discussion about the future direction of our downtown.

Help shape the future of historic preservation in Madison. The City of Madison is in the early stages of developing its first ever Historic Preservation Plan. A community gathering has been scheduled for people to come and share their ideas and comments on aspects that should be covered in the plan. The next meeting will take place at East High School in Room 1042 LMC Gold on May 21st from 6-7:30pm. Click here for more information.

Enjoy Madison's best views, a DCB brew, and a good old-fashioned Wisconsin fish fry while listening to some of the nation's best Bluegrass bands every Friday at The Edgewater. Fish Fry available in The Icehouse at 5 PM, live music starts at 6 PM. NPR Music's Artist to Watch & Rolling Stone Country's Artist to Know, Dead Horses, make their debut to the Brewgrass Fridays on The Grand Plaza in partnership with Door County Brewing Co. on June 1st.

Isthmus Uncorked is happening on Saturday, May 19th from 3-6pm at McPike Park. Tickets include sampling from many great local and national wineries. Monona Terrace presents Meditation at Monona Terrace on Wednesdays from March 28-May 30 from noon-12:45pm (no class May 9th). These classes are free and open to the public and are touted by attendees as the most impactful program Monona Terrace offers. Monona Terrace will also be offering a special livestream of this series on the Monona Terrace YouTube channel during scheduled class times. For more information, click here.

Grab your canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard and a fun costume for the 39th annual Isthmus Paddle & Portage on Saturday, June 16th starting at 7am. Isthmus is proud to host over 900 participants from across the country. The race begins at James Madison Park with a 1-mile paddle on Lake Mendota, followed by a 1-mile portage past the Capitol and Dane County Farmers' Market, before heading to the final 2.5-mile paddle across Lake Monona and the finish line at Olbrich Park. Be sure to stop out to Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center for the World's Largest Brat Festival happening May 25-28 produced by Metcalfe’s Market. This year's line-up will make you want to start Friday and stay through Monday. Brat Fest alumni Aaron Lewis will headline on the Grand Stage, along with The Gin Blossoms and Blackstone Cherry. May 2nd, at the Madison Concourse Hotel, Old National Bank was honored with the 2018 Community Business Volunteer Award. 100 individuals and companies were nominated for awards in four categories given by the United Way of Dane County. Old National was the winner in the Community Business Volunteer category for their work with 100 Black Men of Madison.
