The Schools of Hope Middle School Tutoring Program strives to support the success of students through academic tutoring, focusing on the areas of math and literacy skills. Every year, The Urban League of Greater Madison works with hundreds of individuals who volunteer their time in service to our youth. To make sure they are able to support the needs of students this year, they have set the ambitious goal of recruiting 500 volunteer tutors. The guest speaker will be Suzy Favor Hamilton, Three-time Olympian, mental wellness advocate, and best-selling author. Event Proceeds benefit Off the Square Club, a daytime drop-in resource center in downtown Madison for adults living with mental illness, and Madison Clinic, an outpatient facility treating children and adults with mental health concerns and/or substance abuse disorders. Join Sustain Dane for their Step Up workshop on September 19th from 5-7pm at Agrace HospiceCare. It will focus on using effective communication tools to help people through difficult conversations in everyday situations. Participants will learn about intent vs. impact around microaggressions, discrimination and inequalities. This is a highly interactive workshop. Through scenarios, sharing, and examples, participants will gain the skills and tools needed to challenge themselves and others to advocate for diversity, inclusivity and equity. Equity Matters is a collaborative effort by Sustain Dane, the Latino Professional Association, and local entrepreneurs to increase and support diversity in the workplace, the boardroom, the executive and leadership teams and to find solutions to create an inclusive and thriving environment for all.
