For the first time, Housing Initiatives is offering a Secret Santa program to provide gifts for the nearly 50 formerly homeless kids in their apartment housing. Simply sign up to sponsor a child and purchase him/her a gift from the wishlist while you are out doing other holiday shopping. Suggested gift value is $25-$45 per child. Drop off the gift at their office (1110 Ruskin St) (Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm) between October 23 – December 15 OR stop by the office for their HII Holiday Social on Wednesday, December 13th from 4:30-6:30pm for Christmas cookies and a chance to chat with staff and a few clients of Housing Initiatives. Associated Management Partners & Executive Directors (AMPED) has historic office space available in downtown Madison on the Capitol Square. This newly-renovated office space, just off State Street, is steps from the Capitol and a variety of shops and restaurants. This is a great opportunity to secure office space in the downtown area. Madison is creating the city’s first ever Historic Preservation Plan to identify, celebrate, and preserve the places that represent our collective history. A community meeting is being held to help identify the places we value and that reflect the diversity of cultures that together tell Madison’s story. The meeting is taking place on Wednesday, November 29th at 6pm at The Village on Park. You are invited to attend this meeting and are encouraged to bring a friend or relative too. The Morning Sports Report is a quarterly breakfast series, presented by Madison Area Sports Commission and ESPN Madison. It brings together those interested or working in sports. The event begins with networking, followed by a short program covering a featured topic. The next Morning Sports Report will take place on Tuesday, December 19th from 7:45-9:00am at HotelRED. Take in the sights and sounds of the holidays as The Edgewater kicks off the holiday season with a joyous afternoon and evening full of free, family-friendly events. The Grand Plaza at The Edgewater plays host to the Fourth Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Friday, November 24th from 2-8pm. Festivities include: Santa & Mrs. Claus, Bucky Badger, Ringing Badgers Handbell Ensemble, and Madison Area Community Chorus & Capital City Theatre Carolers. Also new this year, The Icehouse will be transformed into an old-school arcade, featuring classic video games like Ms. Pac-man, Donkey Kong, and more! This event is free and open to the public; food and beverage will be available for purchase. Ice Rink opening is weather dependent and will be announced closer to the event. Leonardo Academy, Inc., The Sustainability Experts has announced that President Michael Arny has been named a 2017 LEED Fellow by the Green Business Certification Inc. LEED Fellows are recognized as the most exceptional professionals in the green building industry, and it is the most prestigious designation awarded from GBCI. To be selected, LEED Fellows are nominated by their peers, must have at least 10 years of exceptional impact in the green building industry, hold a LEED AP with specialty credential and undergo an extensive portfolio review, among other requirements. Michael Arny founded Leonardo Academy in 1997 and continues to lead Leonardo Academy's sustainability programs and consulting practice.
