Quality of Life

The quality of life in downtown refers to the vibrancy, livability and aesthetics of the downtown environment for all residents, visitors, businesses and workers. It is vital to retaining and attracting people to live, work and play in our community and includes elements such as beauty, lakes, parks, recreation, arts & culture, safety, cleanliness, good schools & day care centers, job opportunities and ease of movement.

DMI continues to work closely with local officials, community partners, non-profit organizations and the private sector on strategies and initiatives to maintain and enhance the quality of life in downtown Madison. Issues and projects have involved assisting with efforts to locate a permanent day resource center for homeless Madisonians, developing and implementing a Clean Downtown/Adopt-a-Block program, participating in the City of Madison's Housing First Initiative, advocating for key civic facilities such as Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center, Overture Center for the Arts and Madison's Central Library, and supporting the Madison Public Schools through volunteer opportunities and supply drives.
