Downtown Madison draws people from all over the region to live, work, play, and recreate. With the population growth the City of Madison and Dane County are experiencing, determining the appropriate location for and amount of downtown automobile parking that reflects the needs of those who choose to drive downtown is key to a healthy, competitive and economically strong central city.

DMI has and continues to work closely with the City of Madison parking utility, local officials, the private-sector and parking advocates on plans, strategies and solutions for the parking needs of our downtown. Issues and initiatives have involved supporting the use and implementation of pay-by-space parking meters and new parking technologies, advocating for a parking task force to address parking challenges and opportunities in the City of Madison, supporting metered parking on the Capitol Square and monitoring plans, policies and activities effecting parking in the downtown area.
