Advocacy
DMI represents downtown stakeholders throughout the entire Madison region to create a strong collective voice for the downtown. We work closely with residents, property owners, business owners, employees, elected officials, government staff and property owners together to answer the question "what is best for our downtown?"
The bulk of DMI's work is accomplished through our standing committees. These committees utilize the expertise and experiences of various DMI members to set agendas, vet projects, and address issues that have an effect on the downtown. The DMI Executive Committee takes recommendations from each committee and then brings projects, positions and statements to the DMI Board of Directors for final approval. Once a position has been taken, DMI actively engages community leaders, city staff and elected officials to ensure that the downtown interests are taken into account.
